Nurse Delegation

This training Course is for Washington State caregivers who work in, or will work in, community-based long-term care settings, adult family homes, homes, and assisted living locations who are CNA, HCA or eligible NAR. This
course is required before accepting nursing delegated tasks by a delegating RN. You will be required to pass a written examination.

Learning objectives include:

  1.  Understand what nurse delegation in Washington State is and the nursing assistant’s role in the nurse delegation process.

  2. Gain a basic understanding of medication administration and other tasks which may be delegated.

  3. Identify tasks which may not be delegated.


This 9-hour course is available in two formats:

  1. Self-Study – This method involves studying at home and then taking a proctored exam via Zoom. This is recommended for the experienced caregiver who may have performed delegated tasks in other areas or highly motivated caregivers with strong English reading and writing skills. Examination only.

  2. Course: 9 hours course reviewing the book followed by the examination via Zoom.


This course is WA DSHS approved for class credit and is required to give medications to long-term care populations.Credits can be used for Continuing Education.
 
The in-person course will be taught online via Zoom and followed by the examination. A Zoom link will be sent to you via email prior to the class. Class participation is required. Certificate of completion will be given to you following successful completion of the examination after class or self-study examination.

Must pick up book prior to class—this is required for class participation.

Nurse Delegation: Diabetes

Nurse Delegation: Diabetes Focus

This training Course is for Washington State caregivers who work in, or will work in, community-based long-term care settings, adult family homes, homes, and assisted living locations who are CNA, HCA or eligible NAR. This
course is required before accepting diabetes related nursing delegated tasks (giving insulin, checking blood glucose with a glucometer) by a delegating RN. You will be required to pass a written examination. You must have completed Nurse Delegation: Core prior to taking this class or taking this test.

Learning objectives include:

  1. Define key terms related to diabetes.

  2. Describe the structure and function of the endocrine system related to the types of diabetes.

  3. Differentiate the types of diabetes.

  4. Identify signs, symptoms, and treatment of hyperglycemia.

  5. Identify signs, symptoms and treatment of hypoglycemia.

  6. Identify your role in helping clients manage diabetes safely.

  7. Differentiate the types of insulins.

  8. Identify the onset, peak and duration of the different insulins.

  9. Describe how to properly store insulin.

  10. Identify the different ways that insulin can be ordered.

  11. Identify non-insulin injectable drugs.

  12. Describe the different methods in which insulin may be delivered.

  13. Explain the step-by-step procedure for drawing a single type of insulin into a syringe and injecting it safely.

  14. Explain the step-by-step procedure for preparing and administering an insulin injection with a pen.

  15. Describe the proper disposal of sharps.

  16. Identify where to inject insulin and explain the purpose of site rotation.
